I was at UHM and saw that the guys who made the first movie, Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, were in talks with Lions Gate to churn out a third movie. The film would ignore the previous sequel and take place shortly after the events of the first film. Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams may have brief cameo appearances in one form or another. Don't know if I would prefer that to the idea they had earlier of doing a prequel explaining the origins of the Blair Witch.

But I digress, the main question here is should there be another Blair Witch movie in the first place? The original may have had some mystery to it but once everyone discovered it was fake, the novelty wore off. The sequel, to my praise, tossed away the shaky cam shit for a tripod but still fell flat with audiences and barely made a dent at the box office. You can find it at most bargain bins these days.

I think that ship has long since sailed but considering we got a Carrie sequel 23 years after the first, I guess anything is possible. Your thoughts?

I'm saying no, and not because I didn't like the first movie (the 2nd one doesn't exist in my mind though), but because it was one of those movies that's best left unexplained and with as little seen as possible. Infact, I'm not a fan of "origin" movies in general when it comes to the horror genre because it eliminates a lot of the mystery. I firmly believe in "less is more".

Besides, it's mostly heading nowhere but DTV-land.

I haven't even seen the 1999 "re-make" of Cannibal Holocaust, and I don't think there should be another one.

Another sequel where part  ended would be awesome though. I loved that movie.

More a ripoff than a sequel and even that is a stretch. It would be like calling every movie that has a space battle a sequel to Star Wars.

Blair Witch sucks.
Gotta agree with Mage there. I understand the appeal, but as someone who doesn't get scared easily with movies and who doesn't believe in anything supernatural, the movie just came off as a cheap attempt to creep us out without actually showing anything. ANYTHING.

I remember a scene where a guy was saying "Why is there blue jelly on my stuff? Why the fuck is there blue jelly on my stuff???", and they can't even show us the fucking jelly in question. Of course, I haven't seen the movie in years, and I guess there's a SLIM chance I could appreciate it more now, but meh.

Still, it was minimalistic, unlike the sequel which was an even bigger piece of horse shit. I say leave the series dead because it sucked from the beginning.

Totally agree. That's why they fucked up Halloween, both with the sequels and the remakes. Michael was better off as just "The Shape" with little explanation of his past, madness and supernatural strength.

I wouldn't mind seeing one where the first left off...I happened to enjoy the first one and the second one was better than the response it got.

I'm choosing no because like you said... once everyone knew it was fake, the novelty had worn off. I still wouldn't mind knowing how it ended though.

The first was more confusing than scary (what's the truth behind the "true story" hype, anyway?) and I never watched the second.  Fuck Blair Witch.

Well, why don't they hire me to write the screenplay?

Cuz they're ignorant.
