This week's film is: Martyrs (2008)

Every so often I'll post a horror movie. Then sometime until I post the next thread you need to (hopefully watch it first, but is not mandatory) post a short snippet on your feelings on the film and a score out of 10, and as opposed to last time you can give me half scores (i.e.: 7.5, 3.5, etc)...

I'll write my mini-review after I see it again. So for now

My Rating: N/A

Next films to come:
Frontier(s)
Them (2006)
High Tension

I think this movie is actually two movies made into one so I shall say I loved the first act but didn't care for the second one. So rating this is tricky. I was invested in Lucie so the other girls story, I checked out. Too trippy and nonsensical. I give this a... hmm...

Another great foreign movie that had an ending that was kind of out there.... I thought it was shot beautifully and anyone who didn't feel bad for both of the young ladies in this film need to check to make sure they have a heart.... The brutality picked up in the second half thats for sure... I agree with De that the first half was better than the second but I don't think it hurt the overall story or effectivness at all... I would recommend this movie to any fan of horror but make sure you like subs because some peeps can't enjoy the movie enough while reding the subs....

Okay, here I go.

To be honest, I'm not sure what to rate this. I thought the first half was somewhat average (with a crazy illusion after her?), and the second half was above average, but too savage to enjoy (seriously, that man just coming into the room and beating the woman? Horrible image, and this is coming from the person who didn't flinch during the rape scene in TLHotL). The brutality was okay, guess. I like the hidden message, also (never open a door in France, look what happens. Hell, the same thing happened in High Tension). The conversation with the old woman about martyrs was somewhat interesting (and on a side note, I'm happy that sick old fuck got it), and that was my highlight of the movie. This is just an odd movie, and I think I have to give it a 6.5/10

Anyone else have something to add, or can I close this one out with a 7.2/10 with three votes?

I haven't seen Martyrs yet, but are you adding the scores to the ranking board, or getting a mod to add the scores?

Tell me where to update it, and I'll update it. I didn't know we had a board, unless you mean the one that's up top by Wes, which I can't really edit myself, or did you just want me to make a new one?

Make a new one if you plan to be doing this for a while.  I'll sticky it for you.

I'll do half-and-half. I'll keep all of Wes's scores for the movies he's done (strangly, he scored 1408, but missed ten or so in between. )

And I'll do the average for the movies he missed (such as Thriller: A Cruel Picture)

And I'll add years.

And with that, I'll close out this Movie with a 7.166/10.

I'll just use the scores that Wes already has up, and add the ten or so movies he didn't get to.
