It doesn't take all that much time for the action to kick in and it's quite non-stop throughout. There's plenty of exciting encounters with the alligators in the movie and there is one pretty awesome and gruesome kill to look out for. You may need to suspend your disbelief with some of the near-misses in the movie as the chances of survival in many of these situations would be rather slim.
Sometimes in movies I'd rather see humans bite the dust but in this one I was truly rooting for them to survive, especially the dog. The CGI isn't perfect but overall it is decent, just don't focus too much on that and you should be able to enjoy this movie well enough.
