Zombieland (2009)
Reviewed by Shadow

A nerdy college student teams up with a wily roughneck as they travel a post-apocalyptic countryside aiming for different goals. Along the course of their travels they come across two younger women in need of help. The only problem? Zombies, of course. They are everywhere, making travels obviously a challenge.

I myself have been looking forward to this movie at the early start of 2009, if I remember correctly. After all, zombies, comedy and Woody Harrelson... what could possibly go wrong? I would also say it got moderately good hype amongst the horror community, and just regular people in general. The real question would be if it lives up to the hype... and in short, I would say: definitely!

The movie is introduced by Columbus, played by Jesse Eisenberg, stating what exactly has happened to the world, and his "rules" in which to survive, which are stated throughout the course of the movie. Eventually this awkward soloist comes across Woody Harrelson's character Tallahassee: a zombie killing badass who only has one goal in mind- Twinkies.

Along their travels they soon meet Wichita and Little Rock, played by Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin respectively. The temptress Wichita eventually outsmarts the male duo and takes off with their car, only to meet them on a lone highway road with no gas. It is from this point that they all reluctantly decide to team up, however temporary, in order to survive and further their own personal goals.

To put it bluntly, I absolutely loved this movie! As I am sure as most people know, I adore my zombie movies, and adding comedy to the mix is always nice. The film itself was produced really well: it had a great story, great characters and actors to go with those characters, and of course, lots of zombie gore and destruction! The movie itself balanced out well, giving us our zombies, action and even dark humor in perfect amounts, making it very watchable for horror fans and non-horror fans alike.

Woody Harrelson played his part just great: playing the badass country boy, seeking zombie revenge and the mystical Twinkie. Eisenberg also did well as the awkward introverted college student, attempting to survive with only a double-barrel shotgun and his list of rules. Stone did her part well as the intelligent temptress, Wichita, in the film, being complimented with her "innocent" little sister, Little Rock, played by Breslin.

Overall, movie was damn near perfect for me, as far as zombie flicks go; and the best part is it is not just a film for horror fans either... with the onset of this rather recent Zombies vs. Vampires feud going on in movies, zombie popularity is going through the roof for everyone! The movie is fun, funny, and has plenty of action and zombies... it is my belief that just about anyone can watch, and enjoy, this movie; only the lame, prudish, and anti-violence and zombie haters may want to stay away. Because of how much I liked it, I've been torn between giving it a 9 or a 10, but until I give it more than one watch, it shall have to stay at a 9.

Talk to the hand!

Now an official achievement of X-Box Live.

Twinkies are serious fucking business.
