Dry Blood (2017)
Review by Bradley Frohloff

I came across this movie during a bluray hunting binge and stopped on it due to its interesting artwork. It had one of those types of covers that made it difficult to know exactly when this movie was made, and so I researched it. I was hoping it was an older movie, but even once I found out it was a more modern flick, I decided to check out the trailer and boy did that get my hopes up. The trailer had some really cool looking scares involving dead people inside this guys house and it just totally looked like something I would be into.
But, being cautiously optimistic, I found that it was showing on Amazon Prime, so I decided to watch it there before blind-buying a copy of the bluray. And unfortunately, it looks like I made the right choice. Given that the director also has a significant role in the movie, I am sure a lot of passion went into this project but Dry Blood is just not a good movie. The trailer blew it's proverbial wad by showing the only noticeable scares in the actual trailer, and they didn't even come as a surprise when I watched as it was easy to anticipate them seconds before they occurred.
There's two problems here, not enough cool scares outside of the trailer, and the other is the acting. And before I go further, let me say that the acting isn't terrible, I've seen way worse and this is a low budget flick, so it's not all the surprising. The reason why it matters here is because the movie really has two things which the audiences could have hinged on; either lots of scares or a strong lead performance from a character who has plenty of issues he is dealing with. And in the end, we get nothing worth coming back for a repeat viewing.
I am very disappointed, and what's even worse is that if I had watched this without seeing the trailer first, I might have taken my rating a little higher. But because they worked up my hopes, I think I've come down with a harsher verdict of the final product.
