RoboCop 2 (1990)
Review by Bradley Frohloff

9 / 10
It's not quite as shocking as the original movie but it is a lot of fun, has some interesting new characters and an exciting finale. Stop-motion was often quite noticeable to pickup on movies of this era but they managed to film an exceptional battle between machines at the end of this movie with it. Cain (aka Robocop 2) is a very intimidating looking robot and added a nice touch of fear to this movie despite its comical tendencies.

Fans of the first movie should surely have a good time with this movie. I think most people prefer the original movie to this one and if I had to choose between the two, I'd probably go with that but I feel this movie is about as enjoyable as the original.

Robocop 2 takes the shlock, shock, satire and absurdity up a notch, and in some ways it's as smart, funny and outrageous as the first one. If not more on a couple occasions.

But the end result isn't as tight and iconic as the original, and aside from one scene at the start of the film where Murphy speaks with his wife, doesn't have the same emotional resonance.

In fact, one bit of forced sentimentality with a kid is somewhat jarring and baffling.
