Rambo: Last Blood (2019)
Review by Bradley Frohloff

7 / 10
Outside of the 2008 film, I don't think I've watched any of the Rambo movies since the early 90's. I have nothing against them, I've just never had the urge to check them out again... I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I'm not a die-hard fan of the Rambo franchise. I have no particular attachment to the character of John Rambo, which I think is essential to enjoy this movie at its peak.

Without that special attachment to the lead character, Rambo: Last Blood will likely appear as a hollow exercise in ultra-violence and its emotional punches won't hit very hard. To me, it basically felt like I was watching Taken (2008) but with less time spent tracking down the girl and more time spent exacting revenge on the bad guys. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially if you enjoy it when a kill scene in a movie is capable of eliciting a verbal reaction from its audience, because there's quite a few of those on offer.

I got pretty much what I was expecting out of the movie. The violence can be jaw-dropping, but the plot feels somewhat generic.
